The year is 1046 AD. The place is England. Edward the Confessor, last king of the Anglo-Saxons, has temporarily rescued his country from Danish and Viking rule.

Marking Edwards rule are strange weather phenomenon. In the heartland of England a massive snowstorm has swallowed up the country. The raging blizzard is referred to as the “Grim Whyte”, and some say that evil powers have sent the storm to punish man for its hubris; others say that its icy veil hides a mythical kingdom of gods and monsters.

The Changeling has lived among humanity for centuries, unaware of its own immortality. After it has lived a human lifetime, it will enter a fugue state and walk the land in a dream state until it finds a human settlement where it wakes up. The Changeling will have no memory of its previous life, but will start a new one instead; it has a unique talent of blending in among ordinary humans, even though it is far from human itself.When its existence in a particular place has run its course, it will enter the fugue state again and it will wander until it finds a place where it can hide once more. This has gone on for many generations – until now.

The appearance of the Grim Whyte coincides with the end of the Changelings current life. It has lost its memory once more, and is wandering the realm in a senseless daze. This time however, it does not seek to restart the cycle of its existence. This time it is called by something inside the raging storm, summoned by an ancient power that knows what it is…
